What file format will my digital cutter use?

Aside from the proprietary file formats created specifically for each machine, the following standard file formats will typically be compatible with the digital cutters listed below:

  • Boss Kut Gazelle: The Gazelle comes with Funtime Software which now includes an SVG importer (registered users can upgrade for free). The Gazelle continues to support a variety of other file formats including DXF, AI, JPG, and more.
  • Cricut and Cricut Expression: Cricut machines by Provo Craft will accept SVG files, but only when used with Sure Cuts A Lot (SCAL) software. Note: Versions 3.0 and up of this software, available for purchase through Craft Edge, will not work with Cricut cutting machines. If you do not already have SCAL software version 1 or 2, you will be limited to purchasing Cricut cartridges to expand your digital cutting file library.
  • Craft ROBO/Silhouette: These machines will work with GSD and DXF file formats.
  • Klic-N-Kut: The Groove-e, Maxx, and Element machines by Klic-N-Kut come with KNK Studio software which is able to import many vector & raster file formats including AI, DXF, EPS, PDF, JPG, BMP, TIF, and WMF. In some cases GSD's may also be importable.
  • Pazzles: The Pazzles Creative Cutter Inspiration & Pro will import many vector formats including DXF and AI files.
  • Wishblade: The Wishblade by Xyron comes with both Wishblade and Create and Cut software, capable of importing DXF files. Wishblade software can additionally import GSD files.

*A word of caution: The above information has been gleaned partially from personal experience and partially from independent websites and product reviews. There are many variables that dictate how well a particular file can be imported and manipulated by any given digital cutting software.
